Although the group worked relentlessly as it navigated the rapids of mid-1980s stardom, it released just two more albums - Around the World in a Day and Parade - before Prince officially dissolved the Revolution after the Parade tour wrapped in Japan on Sept. It was, to put it mildly, an auspicious debut: The concert was professionally recorded and three songs from it - “I Would Die 4 U,” “Baby I’m a Star” and “Purple Rain” - would appear on an album and film that went on to win three Grammys and an Oscar, influence a generation of musicians, and make Prince and the entire band superstars. The new lineup made its debut on August 3rd, 1983 at Minneapolis’ First Avenue - the band’s clubhouse and itself a co-star in the Purple Rain film.
